My Plan to Get Motivated

So its pretty funny. I was assessing the qualities that I possess that will help me to complete this fitness challenge and I came to the realization that even though I have devastatingly good looks, a staggering intellect, a great depth of humility, and the best of intentions, there is one critical component that I lack......Motivation.  OK fine, the humility, staggering intellect, and good looks might be a stretch.

So in light of this lack of motivation I figured I would make a list of why I need to complete this challenge.
  1. I am heavier than I ever have been (210 lbs) and want to be 185 lbs
  2. I feel better when I am lighter and in shape.
  3. When I am in shape my wife says " you are wearing your good butt jeans". (She hasn't said that in 6 years.)
  4. I don't snore when I exercise, my wife gets more sleep and is happier with me
  5. You live longer when you are in good shape. I like life most times and want to see my great grand kids.
  6. Losing weight means drinking less beers and saving money.
  7. I feel more alert mentally when I exercise.
  8. Working out gives me more energy to play with the kids
  9. I won't have to go out and buy prescription pants that are size "fat".
  10. Sex life gets better. (not that its bad now)
  11. Stress doesn't seem to bother me as much when I work out.
Hopefully looking at this list repeatedly over the next few months will help me realize that this challenge is worth finishing.

The Challenge

I am very very lazy when it comes to exercise. Yeah, yeah  I know there are so many reasons why you should get regular exercise but you see, its really really hard.  I have tried so many things to get in shape like sets of 12oz curls, the all bacon and cheese diet, and the run when your being chased program.  Nothing has worked.

I am 35 years old, balding, and chubby. Yep, I look like a big hairy baby.  I used to be in great shape but now am statistically obese according to my Wii fit program. Even my scale says "Your crushing me" in a tiny little voice.

My friend James was doing some searching the interwebtubes and came across a concept for a challenge. The goal is to lose weight, gain strength, and have fun. So in the next 5 months we will train to challenge each other in 10 events that are honestly kinda of scary to think about trying.  Like I said exercise is really hard.

The Events

1. Run a mile in 7 1/2 minutes
2. Arm wrestling
3. Game of Racket-ball winner at 15
4. Game of Basketball to 21
5. 100 pushups in 5 minutes
6. 300 crunches or situps

Hold on let me catch my breath.......

7. Leg press 350 lbs or more
8. Bike race to the top of Claremont Peak
9. 20 pullups
10. Lose 25 lbs

We have 5 months to train until Memorial Day Weekend. The Loser of this "Men's Fatness" challenge has to purchase tickets for both guys to the 2012 Warrior dash, as well as a two night stay in a nice hotel for the winner and his wife.
